Randy DeVol is a New York-born, Hawai'i-raised musician whose life has always revolved around music, art, and family.
The son of a choreographer, Randy grew up surrounded by theatre and the performing arts. He picked up the guitar in his early teens and knew immediately that music would become both his passion and his lifeline.
At 16, he moved to Los Angeles and quickly found himself in the entertainment industry, landing a Coca-Cola commercial and a featured role in a CBS television movie filmed in Japan. But acting took a back seat to music, and during the alternative rock era of the ’90s, Randy formed his own band, Nebulous.
He later moved behind the scenes, working in sound and production for MTV, VH1, BET, PYTKA, and others.
In 2000, Randy co-created the documentary, FROM SOUTH CENTRAL TO SOUTH AFRICA, for Quincy Jones. This chronicled the collaboration of Quincy’s Listen Up Foundation with Habitat for Humanity to build the first 3 of 100 homes promised to Nelson Mandela on his 80th birthday. The film won “Best Cultural Documentary” at the New York Independent Film and Video Festival in 2006.

His friendships with legendary L.A. graffiti artists gave him an all-access pass into their underground world, allowing him to roll with them on clandestine night missions and capture extraordinary—and highly illegal—graffiti as it went down.
Randy wasn’t just documenting the scene—he was trusted inside it. This 7-year venture culminated in THE GRAFF LIFE, winner of “Best Urban Documentary” at the 2007 New York Independent Film & Video Festival.

Eventually, Randy left Hollywood and returned to Hawai'i with his wife, Michelle, to raise their family. Music became personal again while life centered around his children, coaching sports, and eventually surfing alongside his son.
Then came the pandemic—and an unexpected return to music.
Randy reconnected with longtime friend, mentor, and acclaimed Grammy-winning producer and legendary trumpeter Gary Grant, with whom he had worked since the 1980s. Their reunion revived recordings and ideas from years earlier and, with a momentum of its own, STARSEEDS was born.
Gary brought together an extraordinary group of his “A-list” musician colleagues, and over the next four years Randy traveled back and forth to Los Angeles as the album took shape. STARSEEDS was finally completed in 2024.
The album’s first release, “Me and My Lonely,” celebrates individuality and the freedom of following your own path:
“Lonely isn’t alone, and alone isn’t lonely.”
Set against the Hawai'i Randy knows—not simply sunsets and palm trees, but barefoot skateboarders, soul surfers, and “townies” living close to the ocean—the song captures a time when life felt simpler, freer, and anything was possible.
In June 2024, Gary passed away before he could see the album STARSEEDS released.
STARSEEDS, released September 11, 2026, is dedicated to Gary—friend, mentor, collaborator, and one of the greatest STARSEEDS who ever lived.
